Over the Christmas period we have been busy renovating the dive centre. We have put up a new plasterboard ceiling in the equipment area and built 3 stud walls with fire doors and new fire exits to adhere to fire regulations. Although this is necessary work, it was very messy. We had to remove all equipment each day to be able to work and then return it in the evening. The centre looks a lot brighter now that the majority of the work is finished.
Our first cert of the year went through which was for James Dorrington; Master Scuba Diver. Congratulations James! We were also back in the pool on 9th January for our first pool session. It is always a good feeling to be back in the water after the Christmas break.
We have got a busy year ahead, starting this weekend (13th) with a trip to Stoney Cove, where some of the guys are going for the first dive of the year. If anyone would like to join in, please call the dive centre. This will be quickly followed by an EFR (Emergency First Response) Course on 20th January. If anyone needs to renew their certificate, please get in touch. Other trips planned for this year include South Africa in March, the Red Sea at the beginning of July and a break in October half term; destination to be confirmed but aimed at family groups, so young or newly qualified divers can start to experience the wonders of the sea.
As well as these, we will be running a variety of weekends, including some old favourites and new locations. Starting off with Cornwall at the beginning of May, even though the DIvefest is cancelled, we are still travelling down to sample the great Cornish dive sites. Having said this, there may be a surprise trip in April that we are looking at in Europe. So keep a close eye on facebook.
