January, normally being a quiet time of year, we had planned to some spring cleaning in the dive centre. However, best laid plans of mice and men, things don’t normally turn out the way you wish them to. With a new Instructor Development Course starting the beginning of February, Rhonda was working hard running the Emergency First Response Instructor course for the candidates beforehand, which was boosted by quite a few staff members who decided to join in. This course enables you to teach the very popular Emergency First Response course, training up people to be First Aiders.
We have four candidates on the Instructor Development Course. This is being run over a series of weekends by course director Alex Griffin and will be followed by the students attending an Instructors exam with PADI over the coming months. After the first weekend things are going well.
Gary is also continuing to work with 3 local secondary schools, completing their theory and skills for the PADI Open Water Course. These students will be going to Open Water once the water warms up. Following on from the Satellite Clubs, we are running a Youth Concession Weekend.
Although it has been cold we have already run Dry Suit, Enriched Air and Advanced Open Water courses. The deep dive for the Advanced Open Water course was run at the newly opened St Andrews Lake in Kent. You will find St Andrews on the left hand side of the road as you approach Nemes in Snodland, Kent. A group of staff visited St Andrews on 6th January, were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed diving at the location. We will now start using this site for our Deep Diver specialty and Deep Diver Adventure Dive for the Advanced Open Water Course.
The weekend of 23rd & 24th February, the UK’s latest Dive Show will open. This is at a new venue at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. We are looking forward to the new format of this Dive Show and the idea of it being at the start of the season.
Looking forward, the Red Sea trip in August is now full and the Philippines is only a few weeks away. One of the reasons we are going to the dive show is to explore what possibilities there are for 2020, although there is one in the pipeline already; Ice Diving!
We still have places available for Porthkerris at the End of May and the Farne Islands in July. If you would like for information, please contact the Dive Centre.
