Diving is a sport that can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life and whilst it can be exhilarating it can also be relaxing. Many divers love more than anything the simple experience of weightlessness but for those with a disability the sense of freedom can provide an even more significant experience. |
Many individuals with physical disabilities are able to participate fully in diving using the PADI system of certification and for those that are not able to complete a full Open Water course the door is still wide open. |
The International Association for Handicapped Divers (IAHD) is a diving association, which focuses on providing the means for those with physical disabilities who wish to become scuba divers. |
Orca is proud to have two fully qualified Instructors, Bruce Pearce and Gary Aldridge who have trained with IAHD to provide a range of underwater activities to those with serious physical disabilities. They also train others to form part of a team to assist disabled divers and make sure the experience is the best that it can be. |
SO if you are disabled and want to experience the thrill of weightlessness and the freedom to enjoy the underwater world or if you are already a carer and want to get involved come and speak to Orca. |
The IAHD works tirelessly to encourage divers within the disabled community and Orca fully supports this activity and so we would encourage you to visit the IAHD website at www.iahd.org/ and learn more about being able to dive. |
